Supporting a Multi-Sector Initiative to Address Health Inequalities

Our work with Kensington and Chelsea Social Council (KCSC) since September 2008 has helped to demonstrate the range of support WSA Community Consultants offers and the benefits of a long-term and integrated partnership.

KCSC, the CVS for the London Borough, has been supporting NHS Kensington and Chelsea (K&C) with its commissioning of work to the voluntary sector to address local health inequalities. With a broad representation of BME and other marginalised communities within the Borough, the K&C NHS Commissioner wanted to identify and fund quality projects that extended its reach and engagement, with proper follow-through to support the voluntary sector as well as a thorough evaluation of how the NHS’s investment had paid off.

WSA Community Consultants has been instrumental in the initiative from capacity-building of the voluntary sector organisations through bid and project development support, to leadership and implementation of a comprehensive evaluation process involving the 19 projects that received investment. Our Evaluation Mapping Report was produced in July 2008. It is based on one-to-one interviews with each of those 19 service-providers as well as an overview of the evaluation process and progress. It reflects our ongoing dialogue with the VSOs and is both a stand-alone document and a key stage in preparation for the final Evaluation Report, to be completed in March 2010.

We also supported the development and implementation of a successful partnership bid for a team of Community Development Workers to address Mental Health specifically working with BME communities. This was followed by production of a Borough-wide Mapping Report reflecting existing resources as part of the induction for the new team.

Throughout the work commissioned by KCSC we have established strong partnerships with associated organisations and individuals and used and shared innovative frameworks.
