UK Youth - Better Places to Live Project
WSA Community Consultants have a long history of undertaking work to address the impact of the built environment on community groups specifically young people and women's groups.
With this history of work WSA Community Consultants were commissioned to support a three year project as a consultant co-ordinator to work with two youth groups selected by UK Youth, a national voluntary organisation, to create new approaches by and for young people to addressing the issue of safety and well being in the built environment.
This three year project led to young people being involved with support in writing their new curriculums down and for these to be produced as a toolkit for others working with young people. The young people also presented their work at a national conference in Westminster. WSA Community Consultants supported the groups at all stages and offered advice and guidance, they also took on the co-ordination of the publication.
Prior to this project UK Youth commissioned WSA Community Consultants to produce a toolkit on undertaking community safety audits and working to support young people to campaign for change in their built environment. The toolkit is a CD-Rom and includes background information, outline of the youth work process and activities and exercises that can be used with young people. It also includes case studies of work undertaken by young people in Cornwall and Lancashire.
The CD Rom and the toolkit are both available to purchase from UK Youth on
